If any customer search any product in Amazon with the help of keyword on which seller has bid more, product will be visible in first page. As soon as product is visible, its represent Impression. As a seller you did not pay anything. In Sponsored Ads, seller will pay when customer has clicked on product.
Step by Step process:
1) Select the product or ASIN which you want to promote in Amazon.
2) Choose keywords which is relevant to your product and bid for clicks, against that keywords.
3) Start with low budget and create your add.
Criteria for Sponsored Products:
1) Products are tagged in one or more eligible categories( available in Amazon)
2) Must have Buy Box
